Rwanda set for third edition of Kigali Jazz Junction

The third edition of the Kigali Jazz Junction, set to be held at the Serena Hotel in the capital city Kigali promises to be a firecracker, with some of the best to ever do it, lined up to perform.

The headline acts include Ugandan saxophone maestro Isaiah Katumwa and former Neptunez member Herbert Rock who is expected to be launching his album “Sax In The City” at the same event.

Rwanda’s New Times quotes Remy Lubega, the director of the Neptunez band who are among the organizers saying; “The night will be a great one as these two men are great at what they do and we expect a polish of an audience. One that will appreciate this great showcase that is more mature and classic music oriented”

Isaiah Katumwa whose recent album release “This Is Me” continues to receive positive reviews is a reputable self-taught saxophonist whose music continues to touch a magnitude of audiences, the singer has been promoting his tenth album across East Africa, a tour which kicked off in Nairobi.

Herbert Rock is one of Rwanda’s revered jazz artists. The saxophonist has been described as Kigali’s first professional saxophonist, the Ugandan born multitalented artist has been in the music industry for over a decade and an impressive music catalogue, he is a founding member of the Neptunez Band together with Remmy Lubega, a team that has contributed greatly to the Rwandan jazz scene.

Herbert has played alongside the likes of: Grant Chambers, the late Miriam Makeba, Tito Al Uribe and Isaiah Katumwa and Bobby Rickets among others.

The Kigali Jazz junction is a fairly young event which seeks to cater for jazz music lovers in Rwanda, by providing a platform for artists to showcase their talents and a refreshing music for the jazz enthusiast. The series of events has seen the likes of Chilean grand master Tito al Uribe perform in Kigali.
