If you grew up in the 70s and 80s you will nostalgically remember the fashion, the afro hairstyle, and above all the dance, the group that brought you tunes like “Let’s Go Dancin” (Ooh la la la) “Celebration” “Ladies Night” “Cherish” to mention but a few; tunes that made the ‘step’ matter, you guessed it, the mighty Kool and the Gang. Currently riding on their new hit single “Sexy” (Where\’d You Get Yours).
This November, the US soul, funk group will be on tour of Africa, scheduled to perform in three countries; Mozambique, Uganda and Kenya. The former Jazziacs of the 60 will are expected to start their African tour in Maputo Mozambique on November 10 at the Maxaquene Stadium. Then head to Uganda for Kampala’s Serena Hotel show November 12. Thereafter the party rolls into Kenya where the group will perform will rock their fans at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC), Nairobi. Kool and the Gang is made up of Brothers Khalis Bayyan (AKA Ronald Bell) and Robert “Kool” Bell from whom the name “Kool” was borrowed and their neighborhood friends Robert “Spike” Mickens, Dennis “Dee Tee” Thomas, Ricky Westfield, George Brown, and Charles Smith. Through the classic turbulent years of the 70s, the group moved through several names like The New Dimensions, The Soul Town Band, Kool & The Flames before settling for their current name.
The band have through the years bagged two Grammys, sold over 70 million copies and been featured in several top ten R&B, Pop and 31 gold and platinum albums.
Other countries Kool and the Gang are scheduled to visit this November include Spain and Mexico before returning to the US.
