Reputable jazz drummer Will Calhoun has put out a new album “Celebrating Elvin Jones” that would pay tribute to the late American jazz artist and revered drummer Elvin Jones.
The album features a top band of musicians whose careers were inspired by Jones’ work. The lineup includes likes of; Christian McBride, Antoine Roney, Carlos McKinneu and Keyon Harrold and special guests Jan Hammer and Doudou N’Diave Rose.
Elvin Jones was an American jazz drummer of the pop-bop era who perfected his skills from a tender age, and later worked with the likes of Teddy Charles, Charles Mingus, Bud Powell and Miles Davis. Jones featured in the classic project “A Love Supreme” as a member of the John Coltrane quartet, and later releases as a leader of “The Elvin Jones Jazz Machine”. Sometime in 1995 he was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame.
