Kenyan Innovation Awards Set For March

With the Kenyan ICT sector growing in leaps and bounds, the youth are the main force driving the sector, but the major companies and organizations have not been left behind either, the firms have invested heavily in the sector in order to conform with global industry standards and boost their growth.

The global interest the sector has generated means that players have increased, therefore, in bid to improve quality and set industry standards, select organizations have come up with award schemes that would encourage development and at the same time provide a challenge for stakeholders to produce better and quality products geared towards improving people’s lives.

It is with that principle in mind that the Kenya Innovation Awards seeks to recognize the future-focused companies, applications running from now until March 7 have opened for the innovation awards targeting companies and organizations that have invested in ICT.

The winners must show how their organizations are improving citizens’ lives through the use of technology. Last year, Totohealth, which uses SMS technology to help reduce child deaths and improve maternal health was declared the overall winner, the awards were narrowed down to six categories after a total of 586 applications were received.

Organizers of the 2016 awards have invited applications for a total of 14 categories including Agriculture, Business Process Outsourcing, Education and Training, Financial Services, Housing, manufacturing among others.

The award ceremony will take place at the 8th edition of the Connected Kenya conference from March 21-24 in Diani. Participants will tackle issues that may hinder growth in the ICT sector and the best industry practices.
